howdy

i just nearly ran over their dog and hit their car (trying to dodge the damn dog)

no damage to either the dog or the car this time.....but its pretty clear they have no control over the dog...and he likes charging cyclists and pedestrians that come by.... pretty sure just to play...but that doesnt make him any easier to dodge

im also guessing that doggo is what spooked my cats last night...must have got on my garden...

anyhoo...i better get me brakes set up right again....i have a feeling thats not going to be the last time i need to emergency dodge the doggo

(from what can tell they arent exactly in control of their kids either...could be interesting to see how long it takes them to piss the nimbys off)

That sounds like a hot mess. The cat hoarder down the street can't control her feral cats but it is more like they are so hungry and emaciated they can't move out of your way. I'd be much more sad about flattening a too playful pup.

I think you need to spend your free time figuring out plots to force the newbies and the nimbys to interact as much as possible.

If you play your cards right, they’ll take each other out.

(Of course if you do it wrong they’ll gang up on you)

eh...the nimbys are moving out soon...or at least the ones next to me will

the ones on either side of the newbies are lifers tho...they hated the previous tennant...and she only had 1 noisy kid...lol

newbies have 3 or 4...and a pretty lively doggo... ill be shocked if this doesnt end in open warfare between them and the nimbys

Ugh new neighbors have a toddler like that. I have literally no idea how you can have a feral to ddl er, but apparently they do. Little bastard decided to run out in front of the Land Rover the other day. Like... I saw him, he saw me, I slowed down, he waited until I was close and then lunged. No grownups in sight . Raised by squirrels apparently... and will probably survive about as long.  I am by far one of the slowest drivers in our neighborhood.

I hit a dog while at speed. He was a regular chaser, so I was usually ready for him. I had a late start one morning and he went to a different neighbor’s house to chat up the dogs over there. I didn’t see him in the regular spot, so I had cranked it up to speed. With the slight downhill, I was doing over 25mph when I saw him. I slipped off the back of the seat and slammed on the brakes when he came crashing out of the bushes, but I was still doing at least 20 mph when I hit him. The seat levered me over the bars as the whole bike flipped. My ribs were cracked before I hit the ground. My hand hit first, cracking a couple of metacarpals, then my helmet and my back hit.

The bike suffered a tacoed front wheel, a bent fork, a bent downtube, and a torn seat. The backpack was scuffed up but the helmet was crushed.

I had warned those people multiple times to tie up their dog. I even pepper-sprayed it a couple of times, the last one right in front of the dog owner’s kids. Nothing convinced them to control their dog.

The sheriff’s deputy said he would talk to them after my wreck. He also said he’d shoot the dog himself if he spotted it. I don’t know what happened, but I never saw that dog or those people again.

I don’t mess around with dogs. Talk to the neighbor about the consequences if the dog causes you to wreck. My wreck cost me a new bike, new helmet, and hospital bills. I hope that it cost the owners significant vet bills and perhaps a citation from the sheriff’s office. They were poor, so it would have been a waste of time to sue.

Rough and ready friendliness that to all outward appearances is gentle as a babies bottom.  Just rolling along and reach out to greet the eager pup.  ;P

Bikes are hard. Well, they aren't when pups don't bum rush you. I've never had much occasion to ride mine around animals or pedestrians.

its a labrador sized dog...or maybe just a little smaller... im pretty sure if i hit him it wont kill him....probably hurt me as much as him tho

ive spent most of my life riding around animals and pedestrians...mostly its not an issue...but then.. most peds behave predictably..and animals usually run away from the bike...not towards it..

tho...there was one time i was minding my own business riding about on some forest trails when i ended up face to face with one of these furry fuckers blocking the path

Kinja'd!!!

i decided turning around and going back home was probably a better idea than finding out how it reacts to me going around it

That place you were riding to wasn’t that important after all.

I drive everywhere because urban sprawl and lack of public transit. Not too much for me to lose by squishing a feral cat. Lots of love to be lost by flattening an overeager doggo. Lots of damage to be done by colliding with a wooly, wait, what are those furry cow things called?

One of those is much prettier than the other. The not-a-minivan-I-will-kill- you-if-you-say-that-word kid- mobile is pretty ungainly, somehow even more so than preceding generations. Somehow, just about every hand me down car at my high school was a first or second generation Highlander.

Discretely leave invisible fence fliers nearby, casually mention how surprisingly well a small breed training collar can fit on a child's wrist.... let nature fill in the blanks
